Southern California Orchid Forum
No Society Should Be An Island
A network of orchid growers provides value for members of that network. Along those very same lines, a network of orchid societies would also provide value for members of that network. However, the 14 or so orchid societies in Southern California are not networked with each other. We currently operate like islands with no bridges connecting our societies together. If we can create solid bridges between our societies then orchid information can flow between our societies. With solid bridges, orchid society members in Santa Barbara can compare orchid growing notes with orchid society members in San Diego.
On the Same Page
How can these very important bridges be created? Very very easily. By copying the following code and pasting it into your society's website, your society will join a network of Southern California orchid societies. The code will display the discussion section from the flickr group for orchid hobbyists in Southern California. As soon as new discussion topics are added or updated, the code on your website will automatically reflect the changes.
Here's the code...
My recommendation is to create a page on your website titled "Forum" and include a link to that page on your societies main menu. Then you can add the code to your "Forum" page. This is what the code will display...
Possible Topics for Discussion
- Your society's upcoming orchid show, orchid sale and/or annual orchid auction (example: Conejo Orchid Society Show and Sale)
- Upcoming presentations that some orchid hobbyists might drive at least an hour to attend (example: Brazilian Bifoliate Cattleyas)
- Notes from particularly informative presentations (example: Brazilian Bifoliate Cattleyas)
- Orchid resources...articles, websites, etc. (example: Comparing Temperatures)
- Orchid questions (example: Vanda repotting)
The collective knowledge of all the orchid societies in Southern California is quite vast. By displaying the forum for So Cal orchid hobbyists on your society's website, you will be making it possible for your members to easily tap into that vast wealth of orchid knowledge.
